The conversation continues - for those who might be interested, after Walter Adamson's comments - we talked and are planning to set up a webinar to cover the key points in this conversation and provide a slide deck for others in the field to use.
Look for announcements in the next few weeks.

Afterthought, re "We just need to get a web version of our application set up and let people subscribe – that’s it."

Has anyone put together the definitive slide pack to explain simply to ISVs all the issues/risks/dangers as expressed in the post?

I'm thinking of something in the "ISV mindset" as we tend to write our stuff for people like ourselves, and we are all in violent agreement.

If not, I wouldn't mind collaborating in some way to do it.

Wow, I was excited to read this post. Having run into a bit of a brick wall in another discussion group on Linkedin - where we could not get agreement that managed services was not SaaS - it's fantastic to see you hit the nail on the head time after time.

We find that although we have a very good five factor business architecture of a successful business, that we find little call for the 3 technical areas. It's the business and financial replanning, and the go-to-market which completely fails.

The third thing we most often find is the lack of appreciation of the degree of organisational agility which has to be operationalised.

We've really come to focus on the go-to-market, and to that end also now incorporated strong business social media planning and strategy - because this is all part of the customer experience.

At the end of the day SaaS is really about brand behaviour - which includes agility, total customer experience, and very efficient and effective online processes.

You've outlined these points really well, so I hope that you don't mind me cutting and pasting all over.

By the way, the Linkedin Discussion to which I referred earlier is at: http://www.linkedin.com/groupAnswers?viewQuestionAndAnswers&discussionID=6013613&gid=122612&commentID=5908295&trk=view_disc

Hi Michael,

Thanks to Steve and your panel for this great post.

I agree with them about the issues that face the ISV migrating to SaaS and that XaaS is a business model that many software vendor will be unable to switch to.

Regards;. All the best!!
